Biographical Data

(Cincinnati) Andreas W. Loepke, M.D., Ph.D. is a physician-scientist whose professional efforts are divided between directing a basic science research laboratory in the Cincinnati Children’s Hospital Research Foundation and his clinical staff position as a Pediatric Cardiac Anesthesiologist in the Department of Anesthesia at Cincinnati Children’s Hospital. Given his background in pediatric cardiac anesthesia, his areas of expertise comprise the detection and treatment of neonatal brain hypoxia-ischemia as well as the effects of anesthetics on the developing brain. Dr. Loepke holds the academic rank of an Associate Professor of Clinical Anesthesia & Pediatrics at the University of Cincinnati College of Medicine and chairs the Data Safety Monitoring Board in the Department of Anesthesia at Cincinnati Children’s Hospital Medical Center. He has published several award-winning research studies on anesthetic neuroprotection as well as anesthesia-induced neurotoxicity, which have received financial support by the Foundation for Anesthesia Education and Research, and he has repeatedly lectured on these subjects. Dr. Loepke is a member of several prominent professional organizations, such as the American Society of Anesthesiologists, the International Anesthesia Research Society, the Society for Pediatric Anesthesia, the Society of Neurosurgical Anesthesia and Critical Care, and the International Society for Cerebral Blood Flow and Metabolism, as well as a Fellow of the American Academy of Pediatrics. He reviews for all eminent journals in his areas of expertise.
